Can I text on a call only cell phone?
These are phones without texting—the texting function is completely disabled—even if the hardware technically supports it. If you need a basic phone with texting capability (not a basic phone no texting), check out our Talk + Text phones instead.
What's the difference between a call only phone and a dumb phone?
"Dumb phone" is a general term for any non-smartphone. A call only cell phone is more specific—it's configured so that ONLY voice calls work. No texting, no camera, no apps. It's the most restricted configuration available.
Do call only phones have cameras?
The hardware might include a camera, but in talk-only configuration the camera function is disabled. If you need a basic phone that takes photos but still blocks texting and apps, see our Talk + Media phones.
Can I use WhatsApp on these phones?
No. None of these voice only phones support WhatsApp, social media, or any messaging apps. These are voice-only devices by design.
Which call only cell phone works on Verizon?
Three options: the E-Talk ($124.99), Orbic Journey V ($115.00), and LG Exalt LTE (VN220) ($399). These are the only Verizon-certified talk-only phones. Other phones labeled "unlocked" will NOT work reliably on Verizon.
Do these phones work internationally?
Most do. The TCL Flip 2, POM Classic, POM Cellphone, and Tak S7 all work internationally with a local SIM card making them ideal as a seminary phone for students heading to Israel. The Verizon phones (E-Talk, Orbic Journey V, LG Exalt LTE) have limited band support and may not work outside the US. For students heading to Israel, we recommend the TripleTel Israel SIM paired with a POM or TCL phone.
