Both are military-grade rugged. Sonim XP3 is unfiltered (needs TAG filtering). DuraXV Extreme comes pre-configured by KosherSignal. Both work on Verizon. If you don't want to deal with TAG, choose DuraXV Extreme.

I work outdoors in rain - is the DuraXV Extreme waterproof?

Yes. IP68 rated - can be submerged up to 1.5 meters for 30 minutes. Rain, puddles, accidental drops in water - all fine.
